Hania Rani Shares First Movement from Debut Concerto 'Non Fiction'

Award-winning composer, pianist, and vocalist Hania Rani has released the first movement, Sonore - Animato - Meno Mosso, from her upcoming album Non Fiction - Piano Concerto in Four Movements, set for release November 14 on Decca Records.

Recorded at Abbey Road Studio 2 with Manchester Collective and conductor Hugh Tieppo-Brunt, the album features guest performances from saxophonist Jack Wyllie and drummer/percussionist Valentina Magaletti. The first movement introduces the central theme of juxtaposition - whispers of fragile sounds alongside rumbling sonic outbursts. These motifs recur across the composition, serenity dissolving into chaos, dissonance into harmony, this interplay of balance and friction becomes the essence of the piece from the first note to the last.

Non Fiction marks a new chapter for Rani, bridging her classical training with experimental music and examining human experiences of war and suffering through sound. The world premiere will take place at the Barbican Centre in London in November, with the North American premiere at the Big Ears Festival in Knoxville, TN, in March 2026.
