Texas-based duo Balmorhea (Rob Lowe and Michael A. Muller) will release the original score to The Trap, the feature-length directorial debut from Lena Headey, on 29 August. Written and recorded at Estuary Recording in Austin, the album marks their latest project for Deutsche Grammophon.
Premiered at the Austin Film Festival in 2023, The Trap is a psychological drama exploring solitude, vulnerability, and the unexpected arrival of connection. Balmorhea’s score mirrors the film’s atmosphere of stillness and tension - built around intimate piano and vibraphone, with layered textures from analog synths and guitar.
The pair began composing from the script alone, allowing themes to emerge before filming had even started. “This allowed the musical ideas to develop purely in response to the characters and concepts,” they say. “For us, this is the ideal way to work.”
The first single, titled 'The Trap' is out now, with the full album set for release 29 August.
