Composer and pianist Akira Kosemura, one of the most streamed Asian classical artists, today a new digital edition of his acclaimed album MIRAI, featuring three new solo piano versions of tracks from the original record. These new interpretations, in Kosemura’s renowned solo piano format, shed fresh light on a project that marked a major turning point in his work.
MIRAI (“future” in Japanese) was Kosemura’s first-ever vocal album, created with seven notable singers including Devendra Banhart, Mr Hudson, Baths, Benjamin Gustafsson and Miyuki Hatakeyama. Written during the COVID pandemic, the record reflects a shift in his focus from inner reflection to a message for the next generation, exploring ideas of future, identity and connection. Drawing on influences from film soundtracks, post-rock, neo-classical and electronica – and incorporating traditional Asian instruments - MIRAI embodies a vivid musical landscape shaped by Kosemura’s background and experience as a Japanese composer.
The digital deluxe edition of MIRAI is out now and available to download and stream here.
