Hildur Guðnadóttir has released Floods (Version for Orchestra), the second orchestral reworking from her forthcoming album This Will Be Us, out 23 October via Deutsche Grammophon.
Recorded with conductor Robert Ames and the Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin, the new version expands the Icelandic composer’s original into a full orchestral setting, with Guðnadóttir herself on solo cello. The track follows August’s Elevation (Version for Orchestra) and reflects a long-held ambition to revisit music she originally created largely alone.
“When I was recording my earlier albums, trying to be a one-person orchestra, I always dreamed of having more people playing with me,” Guðnadóttir says. “Now, twenty years later, I decided to make this dream come true.”
This Will Be Us will be accompanied by a series of live performances, beginning in Oslo on 18 October and continuing in Berlin and Antwerp.
