Alice Sara Ott has released Jóhann Jóhannsson: Piano Works - From Englabörn, the second EP in her Deutsche Grammophon project dedicated to the music of Icelandic composer Jóhann Jóhannsson.
The EP follows November’s Piano Works - Film Themes and continues Ott’s presentation of world premiere piano transcriptions of Jóhannsson’s music, newly reimagined for solo piano. The repertoire draws from Jóhannsson’s early studio album Englabörn, highlighting the clarity and purity of his writing within a focused piano setting.
Ott recorded all 30 pieces that make up the wider project in Reykjavík in July 2024, working with producer and engineer Bergur Þórisson at his studio. Many of the recordings were made on Þórisson’s upright piano, chosen for its felted sound and sense of intimacy.
The two EPs form part of a complete 30-track album, Jóhann Jóhannsson: Piano Works, which will be released in all formats on 6 March 2026.
