Stephan Moccio has released an extended edition of Scenes From a Velvet Room, his fourth solo album for Decca Records.
The Grammy- and Oscar-nominated songwriter, known for co-writing hits including Miley Cyrus’ Wrecking Ball and The Weeknd’s Earned It, looks further back for the record’s inspiration. Before writing for some of pop’s biggest names, Moccio spent six nights a week as house pianist at Toronto’s Four Seasons hotel.
Those formative evenings in its Velvet Room underpin the album: a wistful, jazz-inflected return to the music, atmosphere and art of reading a room that helped shape Moccio as a composer.
