The nine-track collection was captured live with a small group of close collaborators in a place Hallgrímsson has returned to throughout his life. Located on the edge of a lava field overlooking two lakes, the cabin has belonged to his family for decades and previously inspired his 2020–21 project Landbrot.
Across Nowhere Sessions, Hallgrímsson revisits selected works from his catalogue alongside newly composed material. Recorded away from studios and cities, the album embraces the sounds of the room, placing presence and spontaneity ahead of polish. Sparse piano lines and understated string arrangements unfold at an unhurried pace, shaped as much by silence as by melody.
“The Nowhere Sessions are raw, honest, intimate, and calm,” Hallgrímsson said in a statement. “My hope is that through them the listener can experience at least some of the calm this place gives me.”
Nowhere Sessions follows Hallgrímsson’s recent Deutsche Grammophon releases Longer Shadows, Softer Stones and The Importance of Birds.
