Max Richter has announced his new album, While The Flood Rages, set for release on 16 October via Decca Records. The first single, Now We Can Sing, is out now.
The 15-track album grew from Richter’s latest collaboration with choreographer Wayne McGregor on MaddAddam, a ballet inspired by Margaret Atwood’s MaddAddam trilogy and co-commissioned by the National Ballet of Canadaand the Royal Opera House.
Rather than a direct soundtrack, Richter reworked the material into a standalone album spanning orchestra, choir, electronics and manipulated field recordings. Across three acts, it engages with ecological crisis, technological acceleration and human connection.
Now We Can Sing closes the record with a choral-led piece inspired by Atwood’s text, built around a recurring piano motif that threads through the album.
