Icelandic composer Gabríel Ólafs has announced Polar: Dusk, the next installment in his evolving audio-visual Polar universe. Set for digital release on 22 August, the eight-track album expands on the world introduced in his recent sixth studio release, Polar - a strikingly atmospheric project inspired by an imagined frozen planet of mountain ranges, tundra and the remains of a mysterious lost civilisation.
Described as an “expansion pack,” Polar: Dusk explores the sound of this imagined landscape as it shifts from day into twilight. The first track, “Ocean Variation I,” is available to stream now.
With Polar, Ólafs created a rich and cinematic musical world, blending orchestral textures with ambient detail to conjure a sense of otherworldly isolation and beauty. That world continues to grow with Polar: Dusk, described as a natural extension of the original album - and the next step in one of Ólafs’ most ambitious projects to date.
Polar: Dusk is set for release 22 August, listen to “Ocean Variation I” here.
