Akira Kosemura Releases New Album ‘Mirai’

Renowned composer and pianist Akira Kosemura has released his new album Mirai, out now via Decca Records. Marking a new chapter in his career, Mirai is Kosemura’s first-ever vocal project, featuring collaborations with a host of artists including Devendra Banhart, Benjamin Gustafsson, Baths, and Mr Hudson.

Alongside the album release comes a brand-new music video for the track Ongaku featuring Devendra Banhart, available to watch now:

Written during a period of reflection and shaped by his experience as a father, Mirai explores the future through Kosemura’s distinctive musical lens. Fusing elements of post-rock, neo-classical, electronica, and traditional Asian instrumentation, the album draws on his own roots and artistic influences.

“It was a great time for me to be able to bring out the various musical elements that influenced me from my young age to the present and incorporate them one by one into the album,” says Kosemura. “We would travel diverse worlds through the record, and it ends with utopian Japanese music.”

Spanning ten tracks, Mirai is both a personal statement and a hopeful vision. With contributions in multiple languages and a sound palette that includes dilruba, erhu, shakuhachi, koto, and shamisen.

Mirai is out now and available digitally and on vinyl.
